CHAPTER 5
PUTTING ON THE “NEW MAN” AND PUTTING OFF THE OLD MAN
Though it’s true, “the outward man is decaying,” because of
the fall of Adam and the introduction of the death process and its affects
appearing inevitable, yet know this; the inward man can be renewed day by
day. This inward renewal can be “put on”
and the decaying outward man be put off.
The affects of putting on and putting off, what is this you
may ask? There are times, which we have
all experienced, knowing it at times then at times not knowing it, this putting
on and putting off. Have you ever had it
said to you, “My, you look tired or pale”; or they might say, “My, you looked
fresh and alive today;” or they might say, “My, you are glowing.” This is something of the natural changes that
can be seen in us all. Its cause can be
mimicked without the spiritual element; like using “make-over” procedures,
make-up and all. I am not saying this,
nor Paul the Apostle. This putting on
and putting off is much greater than our self efforts. This inward renewal is said to be “from one
degree of glory to another degree of glory.
And this glory comes from what’s called faith to faith or better said
hearing from God inwardly, which empowers the inward man. It builds in brightness and is stored in us. Now I will get, “Where is this in the
Bible?” Read on and you will see it.
Paul in his early writings discovers this, yet didn’t at
that moment know that this inward building up of glory could be “put-on.” This putting on the inward glory would “put-
off” the outward man and its weakness.
This putting off would be as I’ve seen it; you could be 60 years of age
showing signs of age, losing hair etc., the usual signs of human aging, but
when the inward man, this built up glory or renewing in us is put-on, all these
elements of aging can’t be seen and are over rode. Those around you may or may not see the
glow. Those in the New Age movement call
it the aurora; claiming they can see the glow of aurora in various colors
around an individual; a color for sickness and various colors for heath. I don’t follow the New Age movement, but do
agree with the truth they claim to see, yet feel they fall short of its
manifestation, or its true source. In other words, they may not see its source
from the God I know to be and is its only true manifestation and source. Don’t forget, even the devil can appear as an
angel of light. So that which I speak of
can be mimicked. Know the difference;
its true source is everlasting, whereas that mimicked is temporary.
Paul speaks of this in II Corinthians Chapter three where it
says that Israel could not look steadfastly on the face of Moses when he came
down off the mountain after receiving the 10 Commandments. It goes on to say that this kind of glory was
to be done away with, replaced with what the Holy Spirit would manifest via
what is called righteousness; something I addressed in several other chapters
of this book; righteousness meaning the acquired ability to hear God speak to
us and direct our lives. It says that
this “glory” coming from this idea of righteousness would “exceed” in
glory. In verse 3:10 it says, “For even that which was made glorious HAD
NO GLORY in this respect, by reason of the glory that excels.”
In other words it is saying whatever Moses acquired that day faded, where as
what we today via the Holy Spirit receive is eternal. Paul in the book of Hebrews takes this
further, “Hebrews 3:3 “For this man
(Jesus) was counted worthy of MORE GLORY than Moses, inasmuch as
He who hath built the house has more honor than the house.” Also in Romans 8:18 “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy
to be compared with the GLORY which shall be revealed IN US.”
So, Moses confrontation of the burning bush and his
receiving the 10 Commandments from God, caused his face to glow for some time
to the point where he had to wear a veil over his face to hide the glow. This isn’t the case now with our not being
under the law and the curse. Paul said
this using symbolism; the law’s purpose came with glory, yet would one day fade
away with Christ’s glory in us being its end intent and this “renewal”
manifesting an everlasting glow in us.
He goes on to say if the commandment was manifested with glory, what of
the eternal glory in us, not being as the temporal use and purpose of the law,
what of this eternal renewing in us, could we expect it to grow from one degree
to another degree? It was called “the
knowledge of the Glory of God, through the face of Jesus.” It’s said there was no outward appearing that
attracted people to Jesus, but rather this glow of God the Father manifested
through Him. We can come under the
world’s opinion of us, as Jesus did, feeling at those moments dejected, put
down; getting a low self esteem from this, thus this glow would be suppressed. Paul warns us to not be conformed to this
world’s opinion of you; stop putting on an outward expression that does not
come to you from the inward renewed self.
Know God loves you; He gave His Son whom you have received, with this
giving you have the God given right to say, “I am a Son of God;” no matter
whether the world knows of such a thing or not.
Those who’s judgments are according to their opinions and ideas of me;
those who judge according to the flesh; they can do this from this point on, I
do not want to return their judgments and judge them after the flesh. This love of God and offer of son ship is
extended to all. Their judgment will not
block the flow of God’s glory in me, nor will I block this glow by my judging. It is then that the peace of God that passes
all human understanding comes and with this peace comes an increase of this
glory from one degree to another.
EYES OF GLORY
The human sight is over ridden and looks past the
flesh. You see the true condition of
another human being; perceived in degrees of glory (brilliance) Question; Will
all be able to see this brilliance; both ways, those looking and those
manifesting it? Other words, will I see
the brilliance glowing in my face and will all be able to see it along with me?
“You will feel it and
may even be able to see it. Now just
because you can feel and see it, does not mean all will see it. Their eyes may be dull of seeing it. Jesus walked in the glory of God, manifested
in his face (John…”And we beheld His glory.”)
Yet note, the Pharisees did not see it.
They only could see the Jewish son of a carpenter; only the body of a
man. You have had it said to you in the
past on the job, “You glow and when you walk into the room you light it up.”
Note; not the plastic religious smile and false image you see in many religious
people. It not only turns the world’s
stomach, but also mines as well. It is
not a self-righteous act or mimic. The
brilliance I speak of is TRUE. A natural
spiritual expression not something forced by laws and rules of conduct. I have more to this matter of “Christ In
Us, the Hope of Glory” coming up in the next chapter.
